We love wontons in many different forms, some people like them in noodle soup, and some prefer to have them deep-fried. No matter how you like them, they are actually very easy to make at home!
Homemade wontons are just super comforting, tender juicy meat in silky slippery wrappers seasoned with a Chiu Chow chilli oil sauce, simply scrumptious!

How to wrap wontons to make Spicy Wontons In Chili Oil recipe?
Wrapping wontons is very easy. There are so many different ways to wrap wontons but here I am going to show you the simplest way. You will only have to remember not to be greedy about the fillings.
- Place a wrapper in the palm of your hand.
- Spoon about 1 teaspoon of filling into the center of the wrapper.
- Dip your fingers into a small bowl of water and moisten the edges of the wrapper.
- Fold the wrapper in half, bringing the two opposite sides together to form a rectangle.
- Press the edges together to seal the filling inside the wrapper.
- Pick up the wonton and squeeze the two bottom corners together to form a pouch.
- Repeat the process until all the filling is used.
What filling should we use for this Spicy Wontons In Chili Oil Recipe?
Ground pork in this recipe, however, I have tried to add shrimp in the wontons and they turned out so good too!
My mom also once made it with ground beef! tasted very good too! You can always add any ingredients of your choice to wontons, there is no right or wrong way, as long as you and your family like it!
What Sauce do we need for this Spicy Wontons In Chili Oil recipe?
There are so many chilli oil options in Asian supermarkets, I love to use Sichuan or Chiu Chow style. Besides, I added a few more different ingredients to the sauce in this recipe to make it more sophisticated.
How far in advance can we prepare this Spicy Wontons in Chili oil Recipe?
You can wrap the wontons and keep them in air-tight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days. However, the meat and vegetables will release juices over time and the wontons may become soggy.
I always store the wontons in the freezer instead. They are good for up to 3 months.
Authentic Asian Spicy Wontons in Chili Oil Recipe
Equipment
Ingredients
Sauce
- 3 tbsp Chinese black vinegar
- 2 tsp Sugar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tbsp chilli oil
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Wontons
- 500 g ground pork
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- Some green onion
- Some Cilantro
- 36 wonton wrappers
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, pepper, lettuce, cilantro and green onion. Set aside.
- Scoop some filling in the wrapper.
- Apply water on all the edges.
- Bring the opposite side together to form a rectangle. Press to seal.
- Turn the wontons upside down and bring the two ends together to form a pouch. Repeat the process.
- Boil a pot of water over high heat, drop wontons one by one, and stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Add a bowl of cold water once the water starts to boil.
- Cook until the water is boiling again, and transfer wontons to a shallow round bowl/plate.
- Mix all the sauce ingredients and drizzle over the wontons.
- Garnish with green onions, cilantro, and roasted sesame seeds.
- Enjoy
