Can frozen abalone be steamed?
Yes, frozen abalone can be steamed. However, it is important to properly defrost the abalone before steaming it to ensure even cooking. Here are the steps you can follow:
- Thaw the frozen abalone: Place the frozen abalone in the refrigerator overnight to thaw it. Alternatively, you can place it in a bowl of cold water for a few hours until it is completely thawed.
- Clean the abalone: Once the abalone is thawed, use a soft-bristled brush or a damp cloth to clean it. Remove any dirt or debris from the shell and rinse the abalone thoroughly with cold water.
- Prepare the steamer: Bring water to a boil in a steamer or a large pot with a steaming rack.
- Steam the abalone: Place the cleaned abalone on a heatproof plate and place it in the steamer. Steam the abalone for about 10-15 minutes, or until it is cooked through. The cooking time may vary depending on the size and thickness of the abalone.
- Serve the abalone: Once the abalone is cooked, remove it from the steamer and serve it hot. You can garnish it with some chopped scallions or cilantro and serve it with soy sauce or oyster sauce on the side.
