This blog post contains a delicious Sugar Cane and Imperatae Drink recipe.
Are you a hot pot lover or a connoisseur of deep-fried delights? If so, we’ve got a drink recipe that’s just your cup of tea. Back in Hong Kong, this was a weekly ritual for me, a cherished family favourite that we couldn’t get enough of.
Prepare to embark on a journey through the traditions of Chinese refreshment that not only tantalizes your taste buds but also offers a soothing escape from the summer heat. This time-honoured Chinese beverage boasts natural sweetness that’s just what you need to combat scorching days, whether you prefer it piping hot or refreshingly cold. You’ll find it gracing the menus of herbal dessert shops, and it’s even available in commercial bottled form.
But the choices don’t stop there; this drink offers a variety of delicious options, including the addition of sugared dried winter melon, corn silk, or baby corn. The star of the show, however, is imperatae, a cooling and sweet grass-like plant. This key ingredient is renowned for its targeted benefits on the stomach, lungs, and bladder, offering support in removing excess heat or Yang qi from the body.

How early in advance can we make this Delicious Sugar Cane and Imperatae Drink? And how to store it?
Delicious Sugar Cane and Imperatae Drink can be made in advance to save time and ensure it’s readily available when you need it. Here are some general guidelines for preparing this drink in advance:
- Same-Day Preparation: For the freshest taste, it’s best to make the drink on the same day you plan to serve it. This ensures that the flavours are at their peak, especially if you prefer it chilled.
- Overnight Preparation: If you plan to serve the drink the next day, you can prepare it the night before and store it in the refrigerator. This can help the flavours meld together, and the drink will still be quite fresh.
- Longer Advance Preparation: If you need to make the drink well in advance, you can prepare the syrup or concentrate (if applicable) ahead of time and store it in the fridge. When you’re ready to serve, you can dilute it with water or ice to make the final drink.
It’s essential to keep the prepared drink refrigerated and properly sealed in an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage. Be sure to check for any signs of spoilage if you’ve stored it for an extended period. If it smells or tastes off or shows any unusual characteristics, it’s best to discard it.
Homemade versions without preservatives: If you’ve prepared this drink at home without using preservatives, it’s best to consume it within 2-3 days when stored in the fridge. This ensures the drink maintains its freshness and taste.
