Super Easy Japanese Bento Box for Beginners

Easy Japanese Bento Box 簡単・基本のお弁当

This easy Japanese Bento box is my lifesaver! I am always looking for lunch box ideas.

We always pack lunch to work ( yes I have a full-time job besides IG). I always want to have full control of what I eat. Although healthy recipes may not be the first priority in this recipe blog, I try to eat healthy most of the time.

What is Bento Box? I believe the bento box originated in Japan. A bento is a single-portion boxed meal usually composed of a carb (usually rice, noodles or sandwiches), a protein (usually meat or fish), and an assortment of vegetables.

Bento box is usually served cold or at room temperature, so you need something that still tastes good after it has been cooled down. I usually prefer origini or stir-fried noodles, some salad on the side, tamagoyaki (Japanese egg omelette), and some meat.

Pro tips for making this easy Japanese Bento Box:

  • Try to stuff the box full so the ingredients will not move around in transit.
  • always be creative about what to add to the box.
  • tamagoyaki is one of my favourite things to include in a bento box, you may not get the shape you want from the first few tries, but practice makes perfect.
  • You may also stuff your rice balls, I sometimes like to include meat, fish, or pork grinds.
  • You may substitute rice balls with sushi rolls.
