Better than McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish Recipe with homemade creamy tartar sauce

This filet-O-Fish recipe is so easy and simple to follow! Filet-o-fish has been one of my favourites at McDonald’s! This fish sandwich made of pollock, cheese, and tartar sauce is absolutely delicious!

I remember I would struggle to order pancakes or filet-o-fish when I was a kid and would always want both. Luckily now I know how to make pancakes and filet-o-fish at home! (But the struggle is still here!)

I decided to make this fish fillet sandwich because I have all the ingredients left from the shrimp burger from last week plus I haven’t made one for a long time! So here is my Valentine’s day breakfast. LOL

This is not the healthiest but trust me, this is very delicious. Treat yourself once in a while. 🙂

And if you have kids, I assure you they will LOVE IT! I mean, who doesn’t like a good filet-o-fish recipe?

What kind of fish to make this filet-o-fish recipe?

I used pollock but you can use any kind of white fish filet! In this recipe, I used the frozen filet from the local supermarket so I just need to bake it in the oven, prepare the sauce and toast the buns. pretty much just to assemble the sandwich after all the ingredients are ready!

How to make Fish Filet from scratch?

  • 1) Cut the fish filet into a square. Handle with care because fish can be delicate.
  • 2) Mix together mayonnaise, dijon mustard, egg, flour, salt and pepper.
  • 3) Coat the fish with the batter, then coat it with panko.
  • 4) Deep-fry over medium-high heat until golden brown.
  • 5) Drain excess oil and ready!

Check my youtube video for a fish katsu tutorial. Fish katsu is different from filet-o-fish recipe but it could go into a sandwich.

Pro tips for making this filet-O-Fish Recipe:

  • Use good quality buns, you can only get these luxurious buns at home or this may cost you a fortune! LOL
  • Use Good quality fish filets! Again, you can only get this at home. I prefer Cod or Pollock. The texture of good quality fish is just better!
  • Toast the buns with butter on a frying pan.
  • Put Cheese immediately after the bun is toasted, and top with hot fish filet right after, the cheese is so delicious when it’s slightly melted.
  • Homemade tartar sauce is the best! and the ingredients are kitchen essentials! Make your own tartar sauce which enhances the sandwich tremendously!
  • Add or leave ingredients of your liking. This is why I love homemade food!
