Super Crispy Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings

Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings are one of the best wings!

Marinated chicken wings and coated with flavourful seasonings, these Hong Kong-style deep-fried wings are so crispy and crunchy! They are a little bit different from chinese style fried chicken wings, just because I am from Hong Kong. LOL

Once you have tried this easy Fried Chicken Wings recipe, you do not need to buy take-out anymore because this is EVEN BETTER!

I always love deep-fried chicken wings and the Hong Kong style is so good! I so miss the time I could walk into any local cafes in Hong Kong to order deep-fried chicken wings in the afternoon tea time. They even have it in an afternoon tea set that comes with a cup of milk tea or coffee.

I am so glad that I have developed this recipe because now I can easily make it at home anytime, and this is even better than in a restaurant!

How far ahead can you make these Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings?

I always have wings prepped in the fridge. These wings can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days with the marinate. And the same marinated wings can be used in different recipes such as Lemon Chicken Wings, Braised Chicken Wings, Chicken Wings with Fermented bean curd, etc.

When you have wings prepared in the fridge, your life will be a lot easier after a whole day of work! What you need to do is just coat the wings and fried them! So you will have super crispy and fresh Hong Kong style deep-fried chicken wings anytime. This is what I do weekly so I can enjoy Hong Kong chicken wings recipe any time of the week.

How to marinate the wings to make these Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings?

  • Soy sauce
  • sugar
  • cornstarch
  • sesame oil

These four ingredients are the basic marinate that all Chinese dishes use. Add them to the wings and mix until combined, let it marinate for at least 30 minutes before the next step. Most Chinese dishes are marinated with these basic ingredients, Chinese chicken wings marinade is pretty much the same!

What flours do you use to make these Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings?

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp mixed herbs
  • 1 tsp powdered turmeric
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion salt
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

You may add more or fewer ingredients, but these are my go-to.

Look How crispy and delicious this looks!

What oil do you use for deep frying these Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Wings?

I use grapeseed oil for deep frying, it is because it has a high smoking point and is a rich source of vitamin E, phenolic antioxidants, and omega-6 fatty acids. Try to avoid canola oil as much as possible because they are very bad for your body!

How often does deep fryer oil change?

I always drain the used oil and keep it in a glass container. They can be reused around 3-4 times depending on what you cook. Start with lighter flavour dishes such as potato fries, then maybe chicken or pork. If you are looking for more deep-fried recipes, make sure you check my other deep-fried recipes.

What sauces do you serve these Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings with?

I serve it with sweet chilli sauce, but I have tried it with bbq sauce, honey mustard, mayo, and as simple as ketchup. Serve it with your favourite sauce. I see these wings as french fries so I would go for whatever sauce I have on hand in the fridge. If you use spicy sauce, then this is the Chinese spicy fried chicken wings! LOL

Can I use the oven to bake these Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried chicken wings instead of using a pot of oil?

Definitely! You can bake them in a preheated oven at 375F for 30 minutes, and flip the wings halfway. Oven Baked ones are just less crispy but still very delicious and flavourful!

How to reheat the leftover Hong Kong Style Deep-Fried Chicken Wings?

If you want to reheat the wings, I recommend popping them in the oven for another 15 minutes. However, I highly recommend deep fry the wings and finishing them off in one go, I mean I have never had leftovers of these wings. LOL
