Quick and Easy Steamed Shrimp with Garlic

Steamed Shrimp with Garlic is so easy to make! This is one of the classic Cantonese dishes in Chinese restaurants.

Most Chinese restaurants serve this during Chinese New Year or a banquet. Shrimp is pronounced as “Ha” in Cantonese, which is the sound of laughing.

I just shared my deep-fried shrimp in Japanese style last week, this is what I cooked to use up the remaining shrimp. There are so many different ways to cook shrimp, you may make shrimp spring rolls too! Our family loves shrimp so much that I have a few recipes on hand to alternate, HAHA. I bet having shrimp a lot is why I always love laughing. 🙂

We love to have the shell peeled off just because we don’t want to get our hands dirty when eating steamed shrimp with garlic, some people love to keep the shell on because the shell has the most flavours which may enhance the dish. I usually save the shell to make shrimp stock tho, there is no waste in my kitchen!

Making this dish is extremely simple, all you need is just fresh shrimp, lots of garlic, green onions, soy sauce and cooking oil. Some people also prefer to put vermicelli under the shrimp so the vermicelli will absorb all the juice from the shrimp, They do it to other steamed seafood dishes such as steamed scallops.

I hope you will enjoy the recipe. 🙂

What noodles should I use to make Steamed Shrimp with garlic?

I love using vermicelli noodles in this dish. Vermicelli noodles are so easy to find in any Asian supermarket, and they can absorb the sauce very well!

I know some people use grass noodles to substitute when they can’t find vermicelli noodles too. Use the ones that you like the most, our goal here is to let the noodles absorb the flavours.

Keep in mind that the noodles need to be cooked very quickly and easily.

How far in advance can I make Steamed Shrimp with Garlic?

You can prep this dish 3 days in advance and keep it wrapped tightly in plastic wrap.

I usually prepare the shrimp in the fridge and quickly assemble the dish whenever I want it. This is my easy quick meal after a long day of work. You know, I am all about meal prepping. 🙂
